Hold On To Your Music - A Mother's Legacy (2025)

A sweeping testament of survival, the power of music, and the enduring strength of a mother’s love

Picture
This is a  powerful generational story that brings to life concert pianist Mona Golabek’s acclaimed book and play, The Pianist of Willesden Lane. At its heart, this is the story of Mona’s mother, Lisa Jura, a child prodigy pianist in pre-war Vienna, whose promising future is shattered by the rise of the Nazi regime.

Sent alone to London  on the Kindertransport, 14 year old Lisa clings to her mother’s words: “Hold on to your music, it will be your best friend.”  Against all odds, she earns the opportunity to study at the Royal Academy of Music, debuts on the London stage, marries a decorated French resistance fighter and guides her two daughters tobecome concert pianists themselves.

Spanning three generations—from pre-war Europe through the Holocaust to the present day—the film is a sweeping testament to survival, artistry, and the enduring strength of a mother’s love.

ORCHESTRA OF EXILES : THE BOOK

THE STORY OF BRONISLAW HUBERMAN, THE ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC, AND THE ONE THOUSAND JEWS HE SAVED FROM NAZI HORRORS
Producer/Director Josh Aronson and co-author Denise George have created a book based on the film and have expanded on many of the stories only touched on in the film. The book illuminates little known stories of Toscanini’s battle with Mussolini which ended with Toscanini in the hospital;
Hitler’s futile attempts to bring Toscanini back to Germany to conduct in 1933, a story which showed the world the courage of the great Toscanini; Furtwangler’s incredibly short-sighted deal with the the evil SS leader, Goebbels; Huberman’s sad battle with his own father to fight for the childhood denied him; and many other real tales that defined the lives of these people and were seminal events that contributed to the forming of the State of Israel.
