Josh Aronson, Director

JOSH ARONSON

DIRECTOR

ABOUT
After starting his career as a still photographer for Time Life, Aronson began directing television films and commercials. Through Aronson Films in New York and Los Angeles, he directed MTV videos, television pilots and specials, and over 500 commercials before turning to documentaries in 2000. Since then, Aronson has made award winning feature docs on a fascinating variety of topics. Aronson says: when a story starts to vibrate for him, if, after research, reading and meeting key people in that space, the vibration intensifies, he goes towards it. If the vibration won’t quit, he ultimately makes
the film. He is grateful that most of his projects have found their way into the world ending up being broadcast by MTV, PBS, Showtime, Netflix, Nickelodeon or others.

Aronson is also an amateur pianist and regularly plays chamber music in New York and at the Telluride Musicfest, the chamber music festival he founded in 2002 with his wife, violinist Maria Bachmann.

RECENT NEWS
2025 marks producer/director Josh Aronson's  latest documentary, Hold on To Your Music, a feature documentary that spans three generations (from pre-war Europe through the London Blitz to the present day) the film is a sweeping testament to survival, the power of music, and the enduring strength of a mother’s love. It makes it world premiere at the UK Jewish Film Festival.

After the pandemic Josh Aronson made Aris Demetrios: Sculpture From the Heart, the 2024 film that explored inspiration and creativity in the last years of Demetrious’ life. The film won many awards in its journey to 50 film festivals.

In 2019 producer/director Josh Aronson made To Be Of Service, a feature documentary that explores complex stories of veterans with PTSD and the impeccably trained service dogs they're paired with.  These dogs bring independence and a feeling of safety along with a new measure of happiness and hope to these brave warriors we sent into the maw. The film features Jon Bon Jovi's original song "Unbroken," which he wrote for the film. The film landed on Netflix for 3 years and will continue its broadcast life on American Public Television.
