OUR FILMS

Through Aronson Films, director Josh Aronson directed MTV videos, television pilots and specials and over 500 commercials before turning to documentaries in 1999.  ​Since then Aronson has made many award-winning documentaries on a fascinating variety of topics.  He continues to seek projects about the search for identity and musical culture, subjects that resonate deeply for Aronson.

In ANDREW & WENDY, guitarist, Andrew Schulman fell into a coma during a surgery and nothing revived him until his wife, Wendy, had the insight to play him the Bach St. Matthew's Passion. His doctors all concurred it was the music that saved his life. Broadcast on PBS.

Some stories get lost in the turmoil of their times. It is often only in retrospect that we can discover the true shapers of history. One such man is the prodigious Polish violinist Bronislaw Huberman. ORCHESTRA OF EXILES explores this great man’s 4-year odyssey, which culminates in the founding of the orchestra that would become the Israel Philharmonic.

2004 - 2005
BULLRIDER takes you close in to the remarkable unknown world of professional bullriding. It's the story of 3 of the world’s top riders vying for the 2004 World Championship and the million dollar prize. The aging 2-time world champion, super-star Adriano Moraes, has a widening lead throughout the season but, despite injuries, broken bones and constant pain, Justin McBride and Mike Lee fight their way back to a neck and neck poignant ending at the finish in the Las Vegas finals.

BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS
2004 - 2005
BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS is a film about the first all transgender production of Eve Ensler’s THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES. This is the first gathering of the best and brightest of the transsexual community coming together to present a powerful message to change stereotypic views of transsexuals. We see that they are a part of the fabric of our society and the film inspires acceptance, compassion and inclusion for them.

THE OPPOSITE SEX
2002 - 2003
THE OPPOSITE SEX (Jamie's Story and Rene's Story) are 2 feature length documentaries, one profiling a male to female and the other a female to male transexual. Both films were shot simultaneously for the months before during and after their sex change surgery. Each film is a powerful close-up look at the impact of gender transition on families, spouses, siblings and friends. In both stories the real journey is the universal search for identity that all people have to go through to find wholeness.

A feature documentary featuring Kenny Vance, founder of Jay and the Americans, who visits his heroes, the legends of Doo Wop, who he saw as a kid perform in the 50’s and 60’s at the old Brooklyn Paramount. They hang out, they reminisce about the beginnings of Doo Wop, and they sing together in scenes that will make your heart skip a beat. Started against all advice at 50, The Planotones is a group of middle aged singers who are re-living their teen dream to sing oldies to the cheers of audiences across America.

Playing For Real is a one hour documentary that takes an intimate look at the extraordinary difficulties of creating a career in big time classical music. "Playing For Real" follows two brilliant unknown musicians at the start of their careers. Both artists have won the Young Concert Artists International Audition which offers its winners the most desirable of all prizes: a debut in New York with 3 years of nurturing, grooming and careful hands-on management.

SOUND AND FURY​ 
2000
Sound and Fury documents one family's struggle over whether or not to provide two deaf children with cochlear implants, devices that can stimulate hearing. As the Artinians of Long Island, New York debate what is the right choice for the two deaf cousins, Heather, 6, and Peter, 1 1/2, viewers are introduced to one of the most controversial issues affecting the deaf community today. Cochlear implants may provide easier access to the hearing world, but what do the devices mean for a person's sense of identity with deaf culture?
